Hello there. I am an architect in India and my speciality is interior work. I also dabble in vernacular architecture, which brings us to my question. I have a supplier for 1.5 inch thick Kota stone and another supplier for 4inch granite stone. I have to use one of these materials as a plinth beam for a 2 storey mud villa. Both stones are good alternative, but granite is very expensive but Kota Kota isn’t. Another thing is thickness of the stone slabs. I believe that the 1.5 inch thick Kota stone would be more than enough to do the job, but many people have told me to opt for 4inch thickness of the stone. So can anyone help me out with the choice
For lighter mud walls with stable soil conditions: 1.5-inch Kota stone should perform well with proper joint detailing and mortar bedding.
For heavy load points, unstable soil, or higher durability needs: Opt for the 4-inch granite for peace of mind.
