Is structure engineering troubling you?
Do you face problems in solving even the basic problems?

If yes then look no further as engineeringcivil.com along with Er. Gobind Khurana and Er. Abhimanyu has taken an initiative to help civil engineering students in structure related queries. We are thankful to Er. Gobind Khurana, Er. Abhimanyu and Vincent T. H. CHU for being a volunteer in helping other engineers in solving problems related to structure design in R.C.C and Steel.

Sir,

Can you please explain what is the difference between ordinary VDF flooring and flooring as per FM2 TR34 specification. Is the difference just a) level tolerance of floor B) the inclined construction joints. is there any difference in the machinery used. What does TR and Fm stand for..

how can one use the interpolation method( less time consuming method) of contours to sketch the contours on a grid of 1m interval.

We removed 36,357 tons of soil from a project off of a slope and the prime contractors cross section measurement was 21,342 cyds in place.
That equates to 1.703 tons per yard in place. We preformed many project around the area over the last 20 years and the weight normally calculates to 1.4 tons per yard at the most. Also, our geologist calculated 1.38 tons per yard weighting the soil compacted. We can’t re-measure because there is now a road on that area. We looked at all the numbers the before and after cross sections and can not find any errors. The cross sections were set on 25 foot grid and the final over laps the initial cross section. It must be a error some where else (hopefully).
Question , What other errors can there be ?

Hello Civil engineering experts,
I have query. Our house is built in 160Sq.Yards (10 years old) and it is ground floor only. On the roof, the steel rods (pillar extension) was being cut by some thief and it is almost flat now. We wanted to construct first floor on it by drilling the pillar to few cms and then extend the pillar by welding new rods to the existing rods. So my doubt is whether this process will be successful without damaging the ground floor and after constructing the first floor does it withstand the earthquakes? Please suggest better idea if this is not good to go with.

MD MERAJ says:

Sir,
I am feeling confused in footing design. Can we design a sloped footing without pedestal? If yes, then what would be its depth.

MD MERAJ says:

Is the depth found from one way shear is equal to the critical section line from the face of the column?
i.e depth “d” from one way shear = critical section at a distance “d” from column face.

My question is as under:
I have casted a concrete cylinder on 05-03-2013 and tested on 10-04-2013. Its age was 28 days. Let say its apllied load is 40000psi. How can i calculate age correction factor on this?

MD MERAJ says:

How can we find the depth from one way shear in case of sloped footing? Not from bending moment consideration.please answer me.

Marlon says:

Sir,
What are the suitable slump range for piling works?
Is collapse slump type not suitable for the piling works?
