Hi. I am curently doing my Masters on structural engineering and at the moment we have a bridge design. My structural choice for this bridge design is a steel box girder. Are their any design guidelines on how to design and obtain preliminary sizing and some minor calculations which will give a rough estimate of the box girder. Thanks and Regards

We have 20000 sqft of concrete terrace surface paved with terracotta/clay tiles with inter-tile space filled with cement. Is there any product or solutions to water-proof the surface without removing the clay tiles? Or, is there any adhesive material to seal the inter tile space since the cement grout holding it is slowly wearing out?

Dear Experts,

It seems the comparison between conventional RCC and PC storage tanks is very interesting. Do you have any idea about the cost of steel tanks instead of RCC or PC which is cheaper and the best in terms of structural elements, construction duration and maitnenance.

Regards,
Srinivasan

sir we all cast pcc of very low grade…why? for top surface level okk…but when the load acts heavy on that i.e from slab to beam, beam to column, column to footing, footing to sub soil…in betn there is pcc…if it is of low grade..then it gets crushes…is it happens or not? and bldg gets uneven settlement..

Marje Hanson says:

To obtain a higher strength of concrete (40 mpa) do you add more cement and reduce water to make a lower water/cement ratio ? And is the aggregate reduced also when cement powder is increased ? Is a .36 water/cement ratio too high for the cement to hydrate properly as I have seen this written ?
Thanks
