I am working on a municipal pilot project for repairing thermally-buckled concrete sidewalks, by lifting and cutting the existing buckled concrete slabs, and then re-lowering them. I need to find a formula to determine the maximum weight of the sidewalk slabs (sheer load?) on the lifting device based on varying L,W,H and angle of buckle (e.g. 6’L x 4’W x 4″H with the buckles each at a 5 degree angle). Can anyone provide the necessary formula? Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated. Much thanks!
A house built into a hill so part of the first floor is underground has water coming through the back wall. The whole backside of the house (which is the part underground) is composed of sandstone stones (built around 1900). The homeowner dug out around the sandstone wall and poured concrete about 2 feet thick, from the bottom of the wall to ground level, to help support the wall (as it was shifting) and to stop water from coming in. Stone and drainage pipe were added, and the concrete was then sealed before everything was reburied. There is about 2 to 3 feet of the stone wall that is above ground level, and does not have concrete behind it, so it is exposed. The entire wall inside the house has been repointed with new grout, and the part of the wall outside that is above ground was also repointed. However, the wall gets damp with every rain. It does not appear that there are any cracks in the stones or mortar. The water seems to be held in the rocks themselves. Oddly enough, the top of the wall, which is part above ground seems to stay dry on the inside, while the part of the wall that is supported by the concrete (the lower section) is the part that holds the moisture. Looking for advice on how to fully seal off this wall to completely stop the water from coming in.
Dear Sir, I would like to seek for the advice for column opening, since I am not sure how to design the opening for a RC column.
