Is structure engineering troubling you?
Do you face problems in solving even the basic problems?
If yes then look no further as engineeringcivil.com along with Er. Gobind Khurana and Er. Abhimanyu has taken an initiative to help civil engineering students in structure related queries. We are thankful to Er. Gobind Khurana, Er. Abhimanyu and Vincent T. H. CHU for being a volunteer in helping other engineers in solving problems related to structure design in R.C.C and Steel.

Er. Vincent T. H. CHU obtained the degree of civil and structural engineering in the University of Hong Kong. He is the author of the monthly column “The Civil FAQ” in the Hong Kong Engineer published by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and is the author of the civil engineering monthly columns “The Civil Q&A” and “The Civil Corner” on the websites on World Federation of Engineering Organization and the University of Science and Technology (American Society of Civil Engineers – International Student Group) respectively. He is the recipient of the Ombudsman’s Award 2007 under complaint-related category and Young Engineer of the Year Award 2008 (Merit) organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He is also the author of the engineering book “200 Question and Answers on Practical Civil Engineering Works”, “Civil Engineering Practical Notes A-Z” , “Ask Vincent Chu (Common FAQ on Practical Civil Engineering Works)” and “The Underlying Reasons in Practical Civil Engineering Works”.

We know that when a frictionless plane serves as a support, the direction of the reactive force is always normal to this frictionless plane.
In the case of vertical smooth wall with inclined backfill how is it possible that the direction of earth pressure on the wall is not normal to the frictionless wall.
Is there any possibility for checking the compressive strength of cube which has already been checked and broken?

Dear Sir,
Are there available codes, standards and references governing the hydraulic design of marine outfalls? If I were to design an outfall capable of discharging 30,000 cmh of cooling water into the sea what would be the most economical and at the same time, hydraulically adequate pipe size and velocity considering the following given data:
1. 51.74 meters (high water level)
2. 50.38 meters (mean sea level)
3. Density of Ambient Seawater: 1022 kg/m3
4. Density of Effluent (Cooling Water): 1019 kg/m3
5. Estimated Effluent Level at the upstream section of the outfall: 57 meters (from Seawater Heat Exchangers)
6. Estimated Lowest Invert Level of the marine outfall: 35.90 meters

How strong is msand when compared to river sand
Sir, why we are taking moisture content at 25 blows in cassagrand apparatus and 20 blows in cone penetrometer

My professor was telling me about a case where,
A column can me filled with concrete mixed was fine, coarse and cement and having a definite water cement ratio
But while filling the concrete in column there is a water pipe driven in the column and water is made to flow
In my opinion the water cement ratio will increase.
Is this possible?
And the case has built a very good building.
sir , is rate of loading on the concrete cube will show the significant effect in the strength properties of the concrete in the grade of M80 grade , what happens if we increase the load standard load to 5.3 mpa to 10.6 mpa ?

Formula to model the ultimate collapse strength (vertical uniaxial compression) of a hollow cylindrical tube based on the variables such as Length, Thickness of tube and the Inner diameter of tube?
experiment on the uniaxial compression of a hollow cylindrical tube for a school assignment. I was thinking of changing the length, thickness and inner diameter of the tube to check how it affects the compressive strength of the tube (while controlling the other 2 variables during each test). I have done the extreme readings for these and found that the experiment works. However, in order to proceed with the assignment i need to find related theories or formulae. I searched up online and tried to figure it out on my own, but have been unable to.
This is to humbly request you to kindly provide me the solution of these questions with a valid source of evidence so that I can file objection in one of the recruitment examination where they have their wrong answers. Your help can help me in securing my job as I am only 2 marks away from selection.
