Ask An Expert

Is structure engineering troubling you?
Do you face problems in solving even the basic problems?

If yes then look no further as engineeringcivil.com along with Er. Gobind Khurana and Er. Abhimanyu has taken an initiative to help civil engineering students in structure related queries. We are thankful to Er. Gobind Khurana, Er. Abhimanyu and Vincent T. H. CHU for being a volunteer in helping other engineers in solving problems related to structure design in R.C.C and Steel.

which country is best to do MASTERS ?
which stream is best to opt(like transportation, structures etc;) ??

sivakumar says:

Can you provide the consequences of adding additional water in the concrete( M40) mixture of the truck mixer. The w/c ratio is 0.42 and admixture is CFC12.

Vincent T. H. CHU says:

To sivakumar,

To substantially change the water-cement ratio of the concrete , external energy must be supplied to the system such as troweling passes with excess water on the concrete surface.

When water is added to a truck mixer which exerts energy on water, it will incraese the water cement ratio. As such, the strength and durbility of concrete mix will be decreased while workability will be increased.

karthikeyan says:

can anyone say about workability in 2 lines.?

Vincent T. H. CHU says:

To karthikeyan

Workability is defined as the amount of mechanical work required for full compaction of the concrete without segregation.

pitambar pradhan. says:

sir kindly understand me how to control bleeding of DBM at site.?

Vincent T. H. CHU says:

To pitambar pradhan

There are many ways which affect bleeding of DBM. Take one factor air void for discussion. A minimum amount of air void should be maintained to avoid
instability during compaction process and to provide space for bitumen flow
in long-term consolidation under traffic loads. A sufficient amount of air
voids should be designed to make room for expansion of binder in summer
and compaction by road traffic, otherwise bleeding and loss of
stability may occur and the pavement will deform readily under severe
loads.

Can you send a sketch to show the planks with debonding pipes?

subir kumar somadder says:

rate build up for M30 concrete. Test result shows strength of M24. How to calculate differential cost. Pls explain with example. Thanks & Regards

Vincent T. H. CHU says:

To subir kumar somadder

For test results which did not comply with the standard, engineers usually reject it (remove it and recast another one). If defective works is accepted otherwise, the cost reduction is determined by the engineer. It can be calculated based on the percenatge of reduction in compressive strength (i.e. 24/30 = 0.8).

ajay says:

during the mix design of m-20 grade concrete the mean target strength was taken as 26.6 n/sqmm. during the execution of work is it essential to achieve this strngth on all the time

Manoj Toparam says:

Dear All ,
We are planning to put a CLC Blocks Manufacturing in AP.In the same i have few quires . 1 . Initial Strength of CLC Block is not up to BSI standards. 2.What could be the Indian market acceptance for the CLC against AAC.3Accuracy of output of a block in the means of dimension and density is also improper these are a few technical issues faced by us . If any of you can please help me in this regards it would be really helpful for us Thank You All Regards-Manoj

SAMBIT KUMAR TRIPATHY says:

Dear Sir
Please explain me whether there is any difference in tire mounted and truck mounted crane.
Kindly reply me as quick as possible.
thanking you.

Vincent T. H. CHU says:

To Sambit kumar tripathy

Truck mounted crane refers to crane attached to a truck eliminating the need for special equipment to transport the crane. When working on the jobsite, outriggers are extended horizontally.

Tire mounted crane is only a type of truck mounted crane.
