Er. Vincent T. H. CHU obtained the degree of civil and structural engineering in the University of Hong Kong. He is the author of the monthly column “The Civil FAQ” in the Hong Kong Engineer published by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and is the author of the civil engineering monthly columns “The Civil Q&A” and “The Civil Corner” on the websites on World Federation of Engineering Organization and the University of Science and Technology (American Society of Civil Engineers – International Student Group) respectively. He is the recipient of the Ombudsman’s Award 2007 under complaint-related category and Young Engineer of the Year Award 2008 (Merit) organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He is also the author of the engineering book “200 Question and Answers on Practical Civil Engineering Works”, “Civil Engineering Practical Notes A-Z” , “Ask Vincent Chu (Common FAQ on Practical Civil Engineering Works)” and “The Underlying Reasons in Practical Civil Engineering Works”.

Pl do masters from either from IIT’s or NITs. Most of the students search for the jobs after doing BE, which is not correct. You have to do any specialization.

salam everyone, my name is saleh baras, and am 4th year civil engineering, i want to design a 40mpa concrete mix and am confused about the standard deviation and the defects percentage, are these values assumable?? in our lab they usually use 5 for standard deviation and 1.64 for k value , and do i have to use admixtures or can i reach 40 mpa at 28 days without admixtures?? thanks in advance and i am looking forward to advice

Damp proof coures.Normaly this specification will be adopted for load bearing wall building at ground floor level.DPC will prevents the wall from dampness due to capilary action.

At the time of Excavation huge quantity of boulders exposed in different locations to take the quantity of boulder i had taken the perimeter of boulder and average height of boulder from that perimeter i derived radius (i assumed that the boulder shape is circular but it is not exact circle) from that i calculated area in cubic meter, is it correct process or any other method is there please tell me.
