I’m designing a foundation wall for a house. The wall has a retaining height between 4 to 8 ft, and is supported by a continuous footing. I was wondering if it’s reasonable to utilize passive soil pressure to resist sliding if I’m assuming a “restrained” wall condition.

I wanted to add a few things from my previous post. First, the wall is supported by a concrete floor slab above and a footing below. Second, the wall is CMU and is 8″ thick. Third, I’m using the “at-rest” condition to calculate lateral earth pressures. Lastly, the soil slopes down on the toe side of the footing. So I’m wondering if we can use passive pressure for sliding resistance, mainly due to these last two points.
