Calculation Of Materials For Plastering

Here, we will be calculating the quantities of materials i.e., cement and sand, required for plastering. We will take 100 sq. metre area of wall and calculate accordingly. Moreover, some extra percentages are taken on volume for other construction works during the process.

Assuming thickness of plastering,
Inside = 12 mm
Outside = 20 mm
Ceiling = 6 mm

FOR 12 mm PLASTERING

Let us consider 100 sq. metre of wall.
Volume of plastering = 100 x 0.012 = 1.2 m3
Adding 30% to fill up the joints = 1.2 + 1.2 x (30/100) = 1.56 m3
Increasing 20% for dry volume = 1.56 + 1.56 x (20/100) = 1.87 m3
approx 2 m3

For 1:6 cement mortar,
Volume of cement = 2 / (1+6) = 0.29 m3
Volume of sand = 2 – 0.29 = 1.71 m3
No of bags for cement = 0.29 / 0.0347 (Volume of 1 bag of cement = 0.0347 m3) = 8.36
Approx 8.5 bags

For 1:5 cement mortar,
Volume of cement = 2 / (1+5) = 0.33 m3
Volume of sand = 2 – 0.33 = 1.67 m3
No of bags for cement = 0.33 / 0.0347 = 9.51
Approx 10 bags

Similarly,
FOR 20 mm PLASTERING
Volume of plastering = 100 x 0.02 = 2 m3
Adding 20% to fill up the joints = 2 + 2 x (20/100) = 2.4 m3
Increasing 20% for dry volume = 2.4+ 2.4 x (20/100)
(30% can also be used)  = 2.88 m3
approx 3 m3

For 1:6 cement mortar,
Volume of cement = 3 / (1+6) = 0.43 m3
Volume of sand = 3 – 0.43 = 2.57 m3
No of bags for cement = 0.43 / 0.0347 = 12.4
Approx 12.5 bags

For 1:5 cement mortar,
Volume of cement = 3 / (1+5) = 0.5 m3
Volume of sand = 3 – 0.5 = 2.5 m3
No of bags for cement = 0.5 / 0.0347 = 14.4
Approx 14.5 bags

FOR 6 mm PLASTERING
Volume of plastering = 100 x 0.006 = 0.6 m3
Adding 20% to fill up the joints = 0.6 + 0.6 x (20/100) = 0.72 m3
Increasing 20% for dry volume = 0.72 + 0.72 x (20/100) = 0.86 m3
Approx 1 m3

For 1:5 cement mortar,
Volume of cement = 1 / (1+5) = 0.17 m3
Volume of sand = 1 – 0.17 = 0.83 m3
No of bags for cement = 0.17 / 0.0347 = 4.89
Approx 5 bags

For 1:4 cement mortar,
Volume of cement = 1 / (1+4) = 0.2 m3
Volume of sand = 1 – 0.2 = 0.8 m3
No of bags for cement = 0.2 / 0.0347 = 5.76
Approx 6 bags
