Why our cities are flooding?

Many cities tend to expand, changing their original land and waterscapes so they become prone to flooding.

CAUSES OF FLOODING
1. Over population

In 1947 India’s population was 34 crores, now in 2024 India population is 144.2 crores increasing at the rate of 3.5 crore per year. China present population is 142.5 crore and they have controlled their population.

The land area of India is 3.3 million sq.km and China 9.6 million sq.km. Our population is more than China but our land area is about 37 percent of China land area . One of route cause of our problems is overpopulation. Our land and environment can hold only a limited population.

2. Massive rainfall and our drainage system.
Drainage system and the effective infrastructure design aid during heavy rains; Since hundreds of year’s the nature had made natural rain water drainage system, thus in the past our cities never flooded. Due to overpopulation more constructive was done leaving small open areas from which some rain water go under the ground. All around the cuties there were natural tanks in which some rain water stored their. There was time when in in India there were, 14 lakhs such big natural tanks. Now 12 lakhs of such tanks vanished in India. Now where volume of 12 lakhs tanks water will go, no where this will flood the cities. The cities drains width and depth are reduced, these drains natural flow also restricted resulting failure of drainage system and flooding of our cities. The rivers width and depth also reduced, they overflow during rains due to which city water could not be drained and flooded the cities.

3. DEFORESTATION
The cutting of trees in a reckless manner ie deforestation is also major causes of man made flood. Trees prevent soil erosion and block the massive flow of rain, thus preventing flooding. There was time when both sides of roads there were tree’s. Now no places on roads are left for trees, as people’s do not have space in their homes to park their vehicles. They park all types of their vehicles on government roads and in markets.

4. CLIMATE CHANGE
The climate change due to human practices also add to the risk of flooding. Cutting trees increased CO2 threats natural disaster’s like flood etc.

5. EMISSIONS OF GREENHOUSE GASES
The burning of fossil fuels depleting the level of ozone layer and increasing the level of greenhouse gases becoming a major cause of man made flooding.

We can do real Worship if we devote, sacrifice, with dint of hard work to prevent God created environment in its original form. The following videos are after one hour rain at gate No.10 of IIT, Roorkee, the entrance of my colony of Solanipuram, Roorkee
